چکیده

Sustainable aquaculture practices can help meet the increasing human demand for seafood, while easing pressures on natural fish populations. Studies aimed at production in have included supplementary dietary probiotics that often promote general health and enhanced growth rates by altering microbiome of host. Steelhead trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ) is anadromous, like salmon, it a subspecies rainbow capable rapid growth, making an attractive to industry. In this study, impact feeding Bacillus subtilis probiotic bacterial steelhead was examined temporally across several stages animal development, from eggs (day -19) through 184 days after hatching, relation physiological measures. Diets included: commercial feed only as control (A), continually-fed top-coated (B), then switch (C), or (D). Validation concentrations tissues performed using CFU/g qPCR, respectively. Fish measured samples intestinal analyses were collected multiple timepoints during development. fed diet D yielded higher weights than other three diets, with little biometric parameters. However, analysis indicated trend overall alpha diversity egg stage day 29 various diets having highest diversity. A maintained high beyond contrast decreased still being B C. The C harbored significantly relative abundance sp. their total microbiomes (feces + mucosa). Interestingly, mucosal-only variation between four groups fish. Feeding earlier hatchery phase, influence composition intestine (rather later has been established) appears be more effective practice enhancing enabling yields.

Individual and Population Level Variation in Growth Parameters for Steelhead Trout Oncorhynchus mykiss in Central California

17 We fit a bioenergetics model based on a balance between mass and temperature-dependent 18 anabolic and catabolic factors to growth data for juvenile steelhead trout (Oncorhynchus 19 mykiss) from California. We grew fish from a small coastal stream (Scott Creek) conser20 vation hatchery and a Central Valley (Coleman National Fish Hatchery on Battle Creek, 21 Sacramento River) production hatch...

Using scale characteristics and water temperature to reconstruct growth rates of juvenile steelhead Oncorhynchus mykiss.

Juvenile steelhead Oncorhynchus mykiss from a northern California Central Valley population were reared in a controlled laboratory experiment. Significantly different rates of growth were observed among fish reared under two ration treatments and three temperature treatments (8, 14 and 20°C). Wider circulus spacing and faster deposition was associated with faster growth. For the same growth rat...

Early Marine Migration Patterns of Wild Coastal Cutthroat Trout (Oncorhynchus clarki clarki), Steelhead Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), and Their Hybrids

BACKGROUND Hybridization between coastal cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarki clarki) and steelhead or rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) has been documented in several streams along the North American west coast. The two species occupy similar freshwater habitats but the anadromous forms differ greatly in the duration of marine residence and migration patterns at sea. Intermediate morphologic...

Rainbow Trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss

Rainbow trout are classified as Oncorhynchus mykiss, and as such belong to the same genus as Pacific salmon, and to the family Salmonidae, which includes Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), various trout (Salvelinus sp.), Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus), Arctic grayling (Thymallus arcticus) and whitefish (Coregonus sp.). Rainbow trout are native to areas around the North Pacific Ocean, from souther...

Over the falls? Rapid evolution of ecotypic differentiation in steelhead/rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss).

Adaptation to novel habitats and phenotypic plasticity can be counteracting forces in evolution, but both are key characteristics of the life history of steelhead/rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Anadromous steelhead reproduce in freshwater river systems and small coastal streams but grow and mature in the ocean. Resident rainbow trout, either sympatric with steelhead or isolated above barr...
